YES.
Just got back from a Something Corporate/Juliana Theory show a little while ago, at UCSD.
YES.
The first two bands were notsogreat. I don’t like Steel Train, but I guess they cater to a more specific taste (though what taste that is I’m unsure, as my friend Dave put it, “They went from country, to slow rock, to whatever that is now…”). Then this garage punk band named Vendetta Red… I’m all for screaming in songs, it sounds good most of the time, but when the lead singer of this band did it, it sounded like something between a beached whale and someone getting castrated. Imagine eeee to the power of hullabaloo.
Then I saw the Theory for the first time in concert. I was thinking they’d play stuff along the lines of “Top of the world” and it would be a mostly head-bobbing crowd, but hell, they started up and moshpits opened left and right. It was awesome: get in a pit, put your head down and your elbows up, and your world is a whirlwind of feet to the tune of 5,000 screaming children. They also played “August in Bethany” acoustic, one of my favorite songs, period, and I almost screamed like a little girl*.
Second time seeing SoCo, and they rocked, of course. Highlight was when they played Konstantine, which is incredibly so much better live.
A nigh-perfect show, perfect being the band on stage occasionally throws Krispy Kremes into the crowd, and speaking of the crowd, it would be nice if they all didn’t smell like week-old ass. But anyhoo, I’m tired and my backhurts and it’s time to talk to my Lauragirl. Check the cam if you want to see how ridiculously emo-asian I look.
*The same way that Avril Lavigne is almost getting on everyone’s nerves.
